Wedding

By Josephine Asbury, 1955

When you think about a wedding
And the bells chime out with joy
Then the couple just gets started
On its voyage...Ship ahoy!
Oh, the sea of life looks tranquil
And its waves are ripples small,
We're sure no mighty breakers
Will ever rock that boat at all.
But no ship has ever traveled
Matrimonial waters long,
Till the frigate has been tested
By life's winds and waves so strong.
Is the prow secure with trusting
And the stern bound up with love?
Can the pilot keep an even keel
With guidance from above?
Does the mate see that the little feet
Skip the decks with ease
Never cause a bit of rocking
On those great uncharted seas.
