A Salute to Spring--With Songs

By Josephine Asbury, April 7, 1959

|
I.
|
The sky is clear and blue again,
And spring comes tripping o'er the land
While April touches all the earth
With the green magic of her hand.
Life stirs in every blade of grass,
While color bursts on trees and flowers
As blossoms shake off winter's rest
In Answer to soft "April Showers".
|
|
II.
|
The saucy tulips nod their heads,
Each gaily decked in bright array.
Like soldiers in a dress parade
To celebrate some gala day.
And our own hearts leap higher, too.
As spring unfolds so rapturously
Now let your welling spirits soar
Come, "Tiptoe Through The Tulips With Me".
|
|
III.
|
'Tis Master Robin preens himself
In his spring suit with vest so bright,
And capers up and down the lawn
To catch a mate who'll be just right.
For he has felt spring's quickening urge,
He's chirping low his mating song.
It will bewitch this plain brown hen
"When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob,
Bobbin Along".

|
IV.
|
But birds and bees are not alone
When feeling spring's enchanting wiles,
It touches hearts around the world
And wreathes the maidens face with smiles.
For since the first bud came to bloom,
Great love has filled the hearts of men.
And though the years may come and go,
We'll sing "Loves Old Sweet Song" again.
|
|
V.
|
And may each love song culminate
With that old story, tried and true
Of bride and groom and wedding bells,
Which with each pair is ever new.
We may not live where azure surf
And flower leis will mark the day
But still our love will equal that
Of a "Hawaiin Wedding Song" anyway.
