On Sewing

By Josephine Asbury, 1947

There's yard goods on the shelves again.
I feel the urge to sew.
And my old green formal's good as new,
'Twould make a dress, I know.

With razor blade and scissors
I'll rip up every seam,
And I''ll cut it and restyle it,
'Twill be a modiste's dream.

And with buttons bright and shiny
And a touch of gold or two;
So that this year's mode it follows,
Who'll know it isn't new?

I must make it fit my buxom curves,
So I look young and slim,
Well, if not exactly youthful
At least petite and trim.

And won't hubby's face be happy,
And his eyes shine with content,
To have a wife whose new dress
Hasn't cost a cent?

Now if you want to help the budget,
When funds are getting low.
The easiest way to do it
Is to get to work and sew.
