An October Day

By Josephine Asbury

When we're riding through the country
On a bright October day;
Then we get our fill of beauty,
From Dame Nature's grand array.

With it's crimson, gold and russet,
'Gainst a cloudless azure sky,
And young wheat green and verdant,
Next to cornfields scar and dry.

Then we feel God's presence near us,
See his gifts on every hand;
As our needs are taken care of
By abundance from the land.

Let us meekly thank our maker,
For the bounty He's provided,
And with those who now are hungry,
Let our surplus be divided.

We can always bask in plenty,
Never feel want for a day;
If we'll heed the Lord's commandments,
And his rules of life obey.
