New Year

By Josephine Asbury, January 1962

A new year has come with its hopes and fears
With its pages clean, just like other years.
Our thoughts are filled with the good we'll do
Before this year again is through.
Oh, we'll meet each day with a happy smile
And the months will pass with never a trial,
And never a care will mar a day
As this New year will go its way.
But stop! We've had many a year before
Made new resolutions by the score.
Not a year has passed without a care
Not one had days that were only fair.
So lift the chin and face the fact,
There'll be joys which troubles will counteract.
Then work this year with main and might
To see to it that God and right
And truth and freedom and love hold sway
In the hearts of men each live long day.
