A Memorial

By Josephine Asbury

Each familiy has been given a flower
In the memory of those who are gone.
But whose spirits are ever among us,
They help us to keep going on.
May these blossoms to you be God's message,
And lighten your hearts that are sad.
And fill them with peace overflowing
When you count up the blessings you've had.
For it is the way of all nature
That the reaper will garner his grain
And we humans can not be excepted
No matter what woe and what pain.
Let the lamps from the windows of heaven
That are lighted by hands we have loved
Guide our lives by their rays shining downward
Into paths that will lead us above.
And into each heart may assurance
Grow stronger and stronger each day
That we'll meet with those who have left us
If we trustfully cling to the way.
So now as we stand here together
May our lives be united anew
May the smiles of the happy departed
Come down through the heavenly blue
And bring us that faith in the future
Which Christ in his teachings had said
Would open the portals of heaven
When our feet on the pathway shall tread.
May the memory of them be a beacon
That will brighten our lives from above
With a light that will bring deeper meaning
To the message for all---God is Love.
